💁‍♀️🐴Zo told me to tell my daughter Zara that she needs her. So when I arrived at the barn today, Zara was working on Zorra’s neck (energy/prana work). Even though Zo appears to be very still and perhaps asleep, if you look closely you can see how intensely she is breathing and how much her ears are moving - both very unusual for a resting or sleeping horse. The second remarkable thing is that the rest of the herd has stayed completely away from the two of them for about 45 minutes, to give them the time and space to do this work together. My equine chiro/bodyworker Ainsley Beauchamp (who has owned 21 geldings) comes out to show me a super easy, no-water-needed way to clean my geldings' sheaths and remove the hardened Bean (which can press against the urethra). 🐎🐑The saga of the horses and the Katahdin/Dorper sheep at the Singing Horse Ranch continues. Montaro and Juno were together with goats and cows at Kesia’s ranch, but they and the other horses have never seen sheep before. The herd is also territorial of the ranch and they regularly run deer and bears out of their space. Will they ever accept the sheep? 🤔 I hope so. And I hope the horses will eventually allow the sheep to graze together with them, so the sheep have added protection against predators. Mama Sage is 7 years old, so she may have encountered horses before, but the lambs have never seen horses either. This conversation/dance is an interesting one…✨ Stay updated with us! Will the Horses ever Accept the Sheeple? #shorts
Since I was a child, I've simply adored cattail. I would use the fluff to make a soft bed for all the traumatized mice I rescued from the neighbour's cat. He would never eat them, just torture them. And then I lined their graves with it, after they died from the shock or injuries, along with other soft or fragrant plants I foraged. Let me show you why I am so enamoured with this beautiful, magical plant... The long flat leaves of the common cattail (Typha latifolia) can be used to make mats and chair seats. Cattail's starchy roots can be eaten in Fall and are as nutritious as a potato. The spring shoots can be peeled and eaten raw (taste like cucumber) or cooked (taste like asparagus). Cattail pollen can be used as flour (sweet, nutty flavor) so works well in pancakes or biscuits. Cattail stems catch and slow water and help trap sediment and silt. Cattail roots harbor microorganisms that help break down organic materials. New research shows that cattails can also remove polluting materials from the water surrounding their roots. Cattail fluff can be used for several things. It can be stuffed into a pillowcase for a soft pillow. It can be used for padding to sit or sleep on. It is water repellant, so it can be used to make a homemade life jacket. The Colville Indians of Eastern Washington used to weave sleeping bags of cattail reeds and stuff them with the down. They didn't have a plentiful supply of thick furred animals to use for insulation in the winter. Cattail fluff is also highly flammable, so it makes great tinder when you need to start a fire.
