People had quite a few comments on my video a few weeks ago, showing my cousin Katrina feeding the horses apples and practicing/exploring her energetic expression with them. So I decided to film how I (Jini Patel Thompson) give the herd treats, as an alternate viewpoint. I explain herd dynamics, personal safety, and then I notice that Montaro’s legs are covered in bot fly eggs!
As I mentioned in the video, in addition to the straight razor, I had purchased a specific bot fly egg removal tool from my local supply store. And it did not work well either.
If you’ve found a bot fly removal method that works GREAT, please let me know in the comments – give the name and a link if you can. Thanks!
Jini Patel Thompson is a natural health writer and Lazer Tapping instructor. She began riding at age 2 in Kenya, and got her first horse at age 8 in Alberta, and so continues a life-long journey and love affair with these amazing creatures.
We use an Opinel knife. It’s like a sharp kitchen knife, but you can fold it when you’re done.
Thank you Ulrike – I will try that!
