Last week, I spent the afternoon with my 18-month-old nephew, Ren, while he watched horse footage I’d shot on my iPhone. It was very interesting to see which scenes he was drawn to, and also how long his attention span was. There was one clip we watched 24 times! It was 2 minutes long and he wanted just that one, over and over. I even had to send it to my brother so he could have it on his phone for later.
And if you’re curious which clip it was – it was from the Hide & Seek in the Forest video – the part where I’m talking about the horses that didn’t come into the woods, and then I ask them if they want to come to the back-back with me (he kept gleefully repeating, “back-back!”).
Well, after he left my parents’ house, I came to the barn and shot this video for him and any other youngsters who might similarly be thrilled with horse videos! Siyone gives us a truly amazing demonstration of a horse balancing on three legs while skillfully scratching her poll with a hind hoof. More details and also the stories of how each horse got their name is here.
Pass it on to any kiddos you think will enjoy it and I’d love to hear your/their feedback!

Well I enjoyed it as much as any kiddo! 😂 Even though I follow the blog all the time it was very orienting and grounding for me to get the detailed intro to the whole herd kid-style. 😊
Very sweet. Thanks Jini. I’ll be showing my grandson as soon as I see him again.
Oh that’s awesome! I titled it that way so people wouldn’t be wondering WHY I was speaking that way 🙂 And because I was shooting it for my wee nephew, I kept things short and simple. Hope your grandson enjoys it.
